Is firewire meant to spark?!

Post by mark_essex_87 »

its not a major prob but when plugging my firewire lead into my camera - the camera is always turned off when pluggin it in/out - i get little sparks - barely noticeable but i dont want to ruin my camera! im guessing its normal as firewire carries power...?

Never happens to me, nor has it ever. I would seriosuly look into the problem, as it could lead to damaged equipment. Try buying another firewire, you can always take it back later. If that's not the problem, look at your capture card. It could be a loose or slighty wrong connection. I can't think of any reason for it to spark...
Erm... yeah...

Most signal cables do carry a small current. Good practice is to always plug and unplug with the power off!

Z X Spectrum users will remember the devistating effects if you ever unplugged a peripheral with the power on!
