Friend in Need, Friend Indeed
After DarkElastic entered the MH script contest, I was impressed with his entry.

Even though it wasn't the winner, I wanted to make it happen. I have been collaborating with him for a good while, and we finally shot part of it today. We intend to finish it up by the end of September, in order to enter it into the Videomaker 2007 contest.
For your viewing pleasure: Some behind the scenes:
And the stills from the camera. Basically, the premise of the film is that the Narrator ( a hitman), is contracted to kill off his oldest and dearest friend, Mark Saltage.
Steve Haas, playing as Mark
Myself, playing as the "Boss's henchman"
Anthony Frisone, as the hitman

The pic with me was touched up with Photoshop to blur out the background. It will not be so in the final product, so it's all good. Don't worry.
This film is actually the one that has taken me the most time to set up. Some scenes took 15-20 minutes to prep. But that's OK, it just means that in the end it will look a little nicer.

Looking good, but obviously you can't really tell at this early stage if it's gonna be great or s***. The plot reminds me a bit of Mr and Mrs Smith (i think I go the title wrong there...you know, the flick about thet two married assasins sent to kill each other)...

Hmm...it's not quite like that. Check out his script, I put the link up there somewhere...
It's more of a guy borrowing money. Then the hitman has to kill the guy...who is his best friend that just turned up. It's actually really interesting, with flashbacks and bits and pieces being revealed all along.

Heh. Yeah, that's exactly why I picked him out. When I told him he would be acting as a hitman, he went crazy. "This is perfect for me!" So it made both of us happy.Looking very slick. That Anthony Frisone looks so much like Wentworth Miller it's not funny.
Hmm...this one is a bit quieter than others I've done. Instead of upping the dB, I'll keep it like it is. Otherwise, I'd have a high dB with loud noise in the background. Instead, it's lower...but the viewer can turn up their speakers, which makes it sound better than upping it a lot in post.Just out of curiosity, are you shooting on a higher dB?

I really don't know. A lot of this was shot in dark areas, but I think it kinda adds to the whole film look of it. I don't really have much in the way of lighting equipment, so I just pulled all the blinds down, then messed with them and the lights in the room until the shadowing looked good on the actors.
But yeah. It was dark, and I had to up the gain a good bit.

I meant your gain settings, because the footage looks rather grainy.kene555 wrote:Hmm...this one is a bit quieter than others I've done. Instead of upping the dB, I'll keep it like it is. Whoops, shows how much of an amateur I amI meant your gain settings, because the footage looks rather grainy.
Yeah, gain was up. For inside portions, sometimes it was up 12dB. I kinda like it, though...so many people are focusing on making the image super good looking (which is great), but this film is leaning towards grainy - it's a dark drama, so the grain just might work out for it!
