Yes, USB 2.0 comes standard on all new Macintosh computers, as does firewire...so you may not need your firewire cards...infact, I think at least one FW400 and FW800 port are standard on most models.rhys wrote:What about my other question? Can macs use the same adaptions as windows computers? (firewire cards, ram, dvd drives, mouses, keyboards etc)
The ram will be a standard type of ram, make sure you have the right kind for the machine you get...specs for all of the machines can be found online here:

If you already own a keyboard, mouse and monitor...you may want to look at the mac mini as an option...they start at $600 and go up as you add stuff to them, but they take up almost no space on your desk (you could gaff tape it to the back of your monitor if you'd like ). The mac mini runs windows fine, final cut well, shake well, after effects well...it's a lot more powerful than it looks. PCI expandability aside, the current mac mini's are more powerful than the dual 2.0Ghz G5 Mac I have on my desk right now...and that cost $5000ish fully loaded. 4Gb RAM, 512Gb HD
mac mini 2.0Ghz intel core duo with 2Gb RAM, 160Gb HD would be $1000ish. For the people saying they could get a PC for cheaper, add firewire, 2 more USB 2.0 ports (4 total), digital optical audio in/out, DVI video (supports vga as well), 802.11g, bluetooth, dvd+cd/rw and Gbit ethernet.

Slap your existing license of XP on it and you've got all or old software plus mac software and x11 unix software
you can search for the software you need here (lots of free stuff):
mac: http://www.versiontracker.com
unix: http://www.sourceforge.net
Low/No budget cinema that looks like a million Bucks!

Pinnacle Studio Plus. The actual editing set up on it is very good but if you want to for example put on a CCTV effect you would have to buy it of the Pinnacle site which I find annoying! I also use Wax which is good for FX's because you can put on as many as you want but when you put a film on it the quallity goes down. So I mostly use Pinnacle.
Ok, who pulled the pin on this one...

Well that is a long thread, and as usual I read the first bit and then was a bit like "s***, I can't read this all" so I jsut want to say what may have already been said about these topics: asking simply "what editing program do you use?" and getting people to list their software is stupidity. However, people debating over the pros and cons of different pieces of software could actually be very useful, for maybe newbie film makers out to buy some real software stuff or people looking to move on from their 6 year old program.
I use FCE (to much of a miser to buy FCP) but I don't really need huge effects. I colour (sorry my mind is going like a bit blank at the moment, this senence may not make sence...arg) stuff and things and edit it all together, put the music in and all that cr**, I have a friend who does like composition and effects...
