Panasonic AG-DVC30

Post by Clarence »

Hey,

Has anybody had any experience with the AG-DVC30? Seems much nicer than the Canon Gl2 that I'm looking at also.

Is there a huge difference between this and the DVX 100B? (image quality wise)

I almost bought the DVC-30, I'm pretty sure the quality in the GL2 and DVX is much better though.

The GL2 doesnt compare to the DVX100 (its a 1/4 inch camera.)

Naturally so is the AG-DVC30 - hence the comparison to the GL2. Personally i think the DVC30 is superior. It allows for more manual control and has a whole range of other (subtle) benefits that make it superior to the GL2 imo.

In fact this review might be useful for you to consider.

The DVC30 allows more control over the GL2, both have good quality, but not nearly as good as the DVX100, 100a, or the 100b.

The DVC30 is still an awesome camera, I would look into it more though, checking out video samples of both the GL2 and the DVC30...

Have fun with your new camera,

Cheers,

I thought the DVC30 is the exact same camera as the DVX100 - only without 24p.

JESUS technically john you suck - man every post about cameras u make is so misinformed ARGH - The DVC30 is great value for money but is not the exact same as a dvx100 without 24p (or 25p PAL land) Its a 1/4 3 chip camera (that itself is one BIG difference) and there will be countless others relating to light sensitivity, sound recording functions and loads.

*breathes deep* I mean i love u man ;) but ur camera statements do some research first cos u spread misinformation faster than Cheney at a press conference.

Well yeah, I know that there is a huge difference between the DVC30 and the DVX...just wasn't sure if you could get a decent image with the DVC30. The one thing that's holding me back from the DVX is 24p...I can't edit raw 24p with Final Cut. Now, someone said that you could edit 24p footage recorded in 60i or something like that.

So, a completely irrelevant question, is it possible to keep the look of 24p but edit the footage in software that only supports 60i?

I have FCP and edit fine using a AGDVX100B. Whoever told you that is full of it.

Final Cut Express, not Pro. Pro can edit 24p, Express...not so much.

Oh I didn't think that would be different.

I shoot the AGDVC60, which is basically the same imager as the DVC30 with some other bells and whistle's added. It's a 1.4 inch 3 chip cam and produces a nice image for the price. Low light response in noisier than my VX2100, but in well lit conditions the two cams can be setup to produce very similar images.
