Short "Alien" film

Post by Metronome1 »

A little experimenting with CG and vision lab... something isn't right. Advice?

edit: Something happened to the audio. Wait for me to fix it, please.

Aaronv2- Don't fret. Here it is. Low quality, but it can't be helped.

Yah...I know the point was CG only but that vid was a little disapointing. it was lit to badly, I know you wanted an effect or whatever, but you've still got to be able to see! And also sort out your acting, cause the one line I heard from each kid wasn't great. Also the shooting wasn't great (it looked like little kids playing rather than in a film). Sorry, but I was just giving feedback on the vid. The CG isn't anything special as far as I can see...remember don't use CG (especially if you're not very good at it) that often. Try and keep it in the mind, that is effective. Now tell us about the CG!

hes a kid... let him experiment. he may start doing cg now and develop into a 3d artist. he could like the editing and become an editor.
Anythings possible at such a young age lets just hope he keeps his passion for it.

For the CG, I just green screened some models from Maya. I did it within a day. I was also disappointed about the color grading (It was visible on my computer, but then I saw it on someone else's.) I made it during a Chanuka Party at my grandma's house, so resources were limited... sorry.

Chanuka Party? Interesting 1) Spelling and 2) That people still celebreate it! (Not meaning that in a bad way) Coz I haven't met someone jewish for a while now (outside my family). Still this neither the time nor the place to discuss that :). And I suppose kids do have to experiment (like myself) oh and btw I wasn't copying aarnov there. lol. Oh and jsut as a side note loose the cheesy American spacemen accents next time. ;)

About Chanuka- you'd be surprised. If you haven't heard it is still going strong it's because you don't have many Jews in your area.

And those kids weren't me. I don't have an accent.

"2) That people still celebreate it!"

Shows you how uneducated Jperson is :)

Just because some people you know in your city don't celebrate a holiday doesn't mean people from another COUNTRY don't. Listen to Aaron's advice on this one.

Hey I was joking! :) It's good to see people celebrating it, but why really caught my attention is the spelling, coz I spell it the other way...Anyway let's move on, yeh, OK, you can experiment Metronome, I'll allow it. lol ;)

its great how you can be offensive to a religeous group and get away jperson but i cant have a view on gun control... anyway, when you say you greenscreened models from maya did you download the model or did you make it. and if so how did you model it... you should also look into using alpha channels for compositing not green screen when your working with cg

Wow you almost went one week without cryin about something lol.

Looks like the alien was downloaded from scifi 3d but I could be wrong.

You could also set your video footage up in Maya and comp it that way. Just look at the help files and it will explain how to setup an image or video clip as a background in the viewports.

Look! you almost went a week without giving bad advice...

only a fool would composite inside a 3d app... you dont do it. you can use the tools to see how your cg lines up sure... but if you re render out your movie your just re encoding it and adding more artifacts to it...

render your footage with built in alphas and use a comp app to tweak your composition. Anyone that can comp purely out of a 3d app and make it look half decent isnt human or professional

Since your new to CG then you didn't do bad, the only thing I can see that's holding you back is your actors.
