Hellbot/Fantastic Four Flaming Hands Thingo

Post by aaronv2 »

I thaught id try my hand (hahahaah) at some fire simulation to try and recreate the sorta flame on hellboy slash xmen fire effects.

Right now i need suggestions on the look of the fire. should it be very plumey and stylised or should it be really licky like a log fire flame?

Anyway heres the first test. Im going to film some plates of my hand and see if i can track some fire simulation to it.

I think it need to be a bit more obvious where the fire is coming from, it looks a bit too superimposed on the hand (behind it actually), all told though it looks quite good, I think the speed is just about perfect.

the hand model wont appear in the final footage to be comped it was just to illustrate the hand. The composite will use my hands and it will look more convincing. as for the flames themselves they are part of a plugin someone pointed me out to for using special effects... it does flames and fireballs and explosions etc

Looks awesome, except at the very end of that clip it's a little too "bubbly" around the hand. Like the fire is coming off an invisible surface an inch off the surface of the hand (noticable around the thumb).

Cool arronv2, and UFProductions; real fire doesnt come straight off the surface, its a gas, it's a little above it.

Ah, I see (even if those words don't actually make that much sense to me). I was just thinking the shape the flame was coming off in looked a little inorganic, but that makes sense, as the hand is inorganic... yes.
