best way to create a smoke filled area/ feild

Ok the best way to make fog/smoke that stays in place is dry ice. If you buy a bunch of dry ice and fill some buckets full of it and pour water on it, it will make thick heavy smoke.

Any kind of smoke will get blown away in the wind if it's to strong. Film on the least windy day possible. Mabye a dry spring day?

Where is the scene set? Perhaps you can shoot it in the lee of a huge building, that way the wind will be cut down enough that you can film on all but the windiest day.

Here in Canada there are places that just sell ice, for parties and meat-packing plants. Big honkin' ice factories off in some industial sector of town. They seem to have it most often, but I've seen it in supermarkets every now and then.
