5.1 surround sound?
What not-to expensive programs are out there, that I can use to create a true 5.1 surrond sound track for my next movie?
Well, i use Sonic Foundry's Soft Encode, it's not expencive because it's not available anymore. For DTS 5.1 i use SurCode DVD DTS.
Wait 'till Premiere Pro come out, it has a trail version of a 5.1 encoder, full version is $200

Okay, does anyone know of an analogue method of getting surround sound onto VCR. I've got a NICAM VCR, but I can only record stereo into it, rather than Surround Sound!
In case anyone was wondering, NICAM is an acronym for
Near
Instantaneous
Companded
Auto
Multiplexer
NICAM!
It used to be known as NICAM 728, because of the bit-rate it works at. It's a really clever system that combines chanels into 1, then back again the other end! (That's what multiplexing is folks)!
I don't know why I know stuff like that! My head is filled with useless information!

You can't. Surround sound is only stereo sound. All it does in put the extreme left and right channel sounds into the back speakers. So if you want sounds out of the back "surround" speakers, pan them extreme.

I've also have the same question, what software do you use so that u can select where do you want the sound to come from in a home teather, you know, center, front left, front right, back left, back right
by the way, if i actually got to do this, do VCD's hold this info or only stereo sound?
Would I need to burn directly to a DVD or something?

you could get vegas 4.0 from sonic foundry. It offers full control over surround sound encoding, and allows you to choose the speaker location of each sound event, right, left, back, center, etc, or even combinations of two or more! The plugin is only around $30 dollars as far as I know, but the editing program is around $500, unless you get it at an educational discount like I did.
As far as sound editing, Vegas is the best you can get (it's almost like a vid editor and sound editor in one), which is pretty convenient if you don't feel like spending a load of extra money!

Yes, Mpeg1 video & audio muliplexed is the standard for VCD, Mpeg2 video & mpeg audio is the standard for SVCD. Mpeg2 is also the standard for DVD with either mpeg1, PCM Wav, Dolby digital (AC3) or DTS (DTS) sound.

I know you can use the WM9 ecoder to create 5.1 sound; but, you have to have an indivdual .wav file for each channel. Now that's a pain:mad:!
Anybody know of an effective way to produce 5 differnet .wav tracks in Premiere that are in-snyc, and that I can manitpulate to create the soundtrack for each channel on a 5.1 system?

i got the adobe video collection.it does 5.1 surround. its cheaper than just 2 programs alone. (probably the 2 you'll use to make surround sound is premiere and encore, why not get audition and after effects for like free) the best investment ive ever made.(besides my Camera)
