Capturing on Premiere 6.0 w/ a firewire and Canon ZR60

Post by mercenary123 »

Okay, I have a Canon ZR60 miniDV camera, firewire, and Premiere 6.0.

Can somebody run me through how to capture video to the program? I've tried capturing on every fullscreen setting, and it's not working. If no one can help, please direct me to something that I can use to capture video compatable with Premiere.

Thanks.

I actually capture with Windows Movie Maker... Should be in Start > My Programs > Accesories under XP. Just capture on full DV quality and it's fine to import into Premiere. For some reason, Premiere doesnt recognise my camera all the time, didn't install the drivers and could never be bothered to update as WMM works fine - so it should for you! :)

Make sure the camera is selected ads the DV palyback device, in the project settings, select DV NTSC or DV PAL as needed. If you are using XP at least, when you plug your cam in to the firewire, and turn it on, you should se a dialog box asking what you want to do with it, usually capture and specifies several different program options. If you see the dialog and it doesn't offer premiere, that is not necessarily an issue, however if you do not see the dialog then the problem is not with premiere, but is with Windows either not recogniing the firewire port or the camera....

Okay, I tried capturing in WMM, and it worked, but evrytime I import an AVI like that, Premiere acts all buggy. When I import it, it stops working for like 5 minutes and then when I move around in the timeline, it stops for about 3 minutes all the time. I can't make a movie that way. Any advice.

Hmm, strange, I've had no problems importing the AVI which I captured with WMM. Are you using the actual AVI file WMM created or a saved movie from WMM using the captured video? Hope you understand that question. I use the DV AVI which is captured (by finding it where it saved it to), just exit WMM and say I DON'T want to save.

Really don't know then soz, maybe just try converting to avi again using another program (vdub etc) - unless anyone else has better ideas (which they probably do!).

I use pinnacle 9 to get my stuff and cut it together, then i import into premiere for the fancy stuff - reeli premiere's too awkward to doo all of ur editing on anyway if u haven't got oodles of time (wich most of us haven't I believe). - pinnacle doesn't cost much... Just a thought?

hth as an alternative - I never had any problems doing that
