Make 'em out of wood. Just find several good pictures from different angles, trace out a template for each part, trace them onto the wood and cut it out with a bandsaw. Give everything a good sanding to round out the sharp edges, put it all together and spraypaint it. You get exactly what you want and come in about $480 under budget.

Hmm... I would go with UFProductions on this one, but I'm sure there's some fair deals out there... I have seen some dummy ones for around 700$... But anyway, it's not really a central prop, and if it is, just put a TON of detail into it. A 30. Cal is really simple in shape.

Oh yes, indeed. Creating your own weapon would be both rewarding and significantly less expensive.

some toy shops sell life size (but bright green/yellow) M60 machine guns and others that look real if painted black - might be worth a look (cheap too)

I would go with the wood. At living history events we have one .30 cal made out of wood; people can't tell the difference. Hell, until we were told, WE thought it was real.

All it needs is a paint job to get rid of that camo!

yeah, the real 30 cal is a dark green color, but not forest green which I have it painted, im going to repaint it later but we just kinda threw the thing together in a couple of hours, so for someone who has absolutely no idea about power tools and craftsmanship, I think i did a pretty good job

If you want to see my pics, since they're not showing up because tripod sucks, send me an email, GITPF87@aol.com, and I'll email you a bunch of shots, maybe a video clip or two
