A little test
Hey there.
We went and did a few tests today for the 90 second script I posted in the script section.
If anyone is intrested, here is the first.
Right click and save as... Geocities is pretty shitty though. Might not stay up for long.

you should make it shatter faster. glass dosent float, and like half of the bottle still there. me and my friends shoot bottles all the time. or, just shoot it with a bbgun from the side. it would look good.

Looks pretty good. The actor's leg looks a little strange after the bottle explodes though. And the bottle shattering seems too perfect. Needs to be more random, and the pieces need to vary more in size. Other than that, it looked pretty good. Good luck!
Not 16:9. Appears to be closer to 2.35:1. The reason that was done was to demonstrate the difference between the original shot, and the final shot.U.S.Amateurfilmaker wrote:my only issue was that it suddenly changed to 16x9, but other than that good job.
Erm... yeah...

Hey there.
"i liked it! Good cg! my only issue was that it suddenly changed to 16x9, but other than that good job."
That's because the their are two clips in that video. A before and after.
"you should make it shatter faster. glass docent float, and like half of the bottle still there. me and my friends shoot bottles all the time. or, just shoot it with a bbgun from the side. it would look good."
Well we did that... And it didn't look THAT great. To be honest we never expected to do use any computer generated effects for this short. It's just that when I dumped the footage into the computer it didn't look as good as I wanted. So I did that little tests to see what it would look like. That was a rough draft of the effect to see how it would look. I can tweak the motion of the broken glass.
"maybe though pull the focus from the actor to the bottle just before it shatters & speed up the shatter a little. "
Yeah there is actually a few rack focus's in that shot from the actor to the bottle and back again... But it all gets lost in a blurry mess due to the compression...

LOL. That''s because I had to paint it in. Like I said. That was never meant to be an fx shot. So I never got any kind of clean plate. The only plate I had is the one you see at the start of that video clip. So I had to take a frame from the film and in photo shop get rid of the bottle and paint in the leg that should be there... It does look kinda lame...
Yeah. I think I could get the bottle a lot more realistic in 3ds. But I haven't tried that yet. I did all of the above in adobe after fx.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave comments.
Also.. Anyone know any half decent FREE web hosting places where I can bung up a few short video clips like the one above?

i mean industry ones, as in ones that work on major movies. lol
And if anyone who isn't getting paid or graded for what they do spends a few days straight working on a 3-5 second shot (especially one that is just a test), i might just have to call them insane and in need of help.

wow man, that's very cool. The last one is very well done, but just for the CGI i liked the first one where the whole glass shattered and went all like matrix-shatter... well that's my opinion.
For the cinematography: I think it will look better if you'd make the camera go up slowly from the feet up to his head or to his 'gun', and then a fast-switching shot: grab - behind shot grab - shoot - shatter and slow down so that the glass all floats really cool.
But again, your shoot was very good, this is just an idea from creative pov
