not very difficult. it can be done in a number of ways. the most common ways are CG and stock footage.

I used After Effects. I have a plug-in called Trapcode Particular. It is excellent. Very easy!! I made this movie in about 30 minutes. If you have After Effects you should try Trapcode's plug-ins. You can download them at www.trapcode.com

Becuase plugins are just doing something for you, to really achieve the effect you do it yourself.. otherwise you can't really call it all your work and no, I only saw a missile come down and smoke

There is one thing I have an issue with, and that is people bashing the use of all plug-ins and preset effects. If you want to get something done quickly, there is no problem with a plug-in as long as it gives good results. The audience is not going to care whether you spent 5 hrs doing it yourself, or 1 hr with the aid of a plug-in. Though I am all for giving it your all and trying to achive the best effect possible by yourself, I don't think someone should say "I can't include that in my film, i haven't achieved that level of expertise yet" when they can ifthey use a plug-in to help them. Anyway, im done ranting, no offense to anyone lol :D

Anyway, i thought the explosion looked good, especially withe the shake.

Good explosion, nice to see smoke as opposed to fire.

And Blade, stop bashing plug-ins. All professional SFX houses use them, how do you think they do the things they do in the time given to them?

Oh, just a tip upon thinking about it. After the explosion sounds fade, add in a sound of a missile whining towards it's target (trust me, that's really what happens).

Should I add the sound of a missile whining after the explosion? Not before when the missile is actually there?

i'm guessing it has something to do with the speed of sound vs speed of light over long distances

You should add a lead in sound effect for the explosion otherwise it was really pretty cool.

You got it. It really freaked people out in England during WWII. That's for rockets though. If you're doing a mortar scene, Battleground should be required viewing as it contains actual sounds from WWII of mortar attacks.

Almost everything beyond simple cuts and crossfades in an editor invloves the use of a plugin... would hate to have to hand mask every frame for a chroma key just because I didn't want to let the app handle it with a plug in....
