Learn to take criticism :D

Post by Grant »

Well i have been entering my work in festivals for a few years now and hear many interesting comments and you soon develop a thick skin. This year i entered 4 movies into the 58th Melbourne Moomba Amateur Film Festival and i just recieved the judges comments back. All 4 films made it into the top 50 but i have included some of the judges comments for you to read. :D
Good, bad and the ugly. Shows you what you must be prepared to hear if you put your work out there :) :D

The I-Team : Project FUBAR
....What can i say?......
....It has potential, try again.......
....Bloody awful show, wish i were there......
....I admire your zeal.....

Udds Armageddon
....very ambitious.....
....gives me something to think about for a month or 2.....
....slapstick comedy set up simply to amuse.....
....the effects killed it, not the war.....

Dangerous Dan Jones
....Good fun.....
....lots of effort has gone into this.....
....with its unbelievability it is funny.....
....bit of a giggle.....

Dark Prophecy
....waste of talent.....
....room for refienment with lip synch.....
....acting was "over the top" and slapstick repetitve.....
....Amazing.....

That post was poorly constructed :D

But seriously, I think offending more people with my 'awfulness' is more fun than if I please someone.

I think those were good examples Grant, and if we all learned how to take critisim better this would be a better world, and I say that as a person who had to quickly grow a thick skin.

thats one of the best parts. unless it is not in a constructive way. it can really help you grow as a filmmaker.

conflicting opinion

Post by Siratramus »

I love my work (well most of it,) and I expect people to share my rather distinquished taste 8), and love it too.

So wouldn't it be fair to say "The world would be a better place if everyone was like ME."

DISCLAMEIR: This notice is not in anyway meant as critism (constructive or otherwise.) It is nothing more than an observasion which I happen to believe in very strongly :D

I think they would have nothing to say to 'I Love Ewe', but good thing they liked Dangerous Dan Jones, cause i believe that is ur best work. And as 4 'Dark Prophecy', I think they may have missed the point. Unfortunately not everyone is as smart as u and me...
I only take critism if it is constructive, i like to know why ppl didn't like it, then i'm happy, and can improve on my next one.

theres no point when people dont say anything constructive, like they just say it sucked and thats it. but constructive critisism is great when they tell you what you can improve on and help you learn

Feedback is the key to bettering yourself. It is my opinion that whether critisism be good or bad you should take it, put it in your head, and next time you do something say to yourself "What can I do so it doesn't turn out like this." I give critisism good and bad, I don't feel bad for saying something sucks because in the long run, I am helping you. If i be nice and tell you it was good when it was awful, I am only hurting you. So good or bad, all critisism is good!
