I'm not getting GreenScreening...

Post by Vamp »

In videos such as this that use a Green Screen

http://static.zed.cbc.ca/users/c/cowhum ... /gorie.wmv

The Screen only covers about 3/4 of a background but then how can all the whole background be taken out and a new one replaced when not all of the original background was covered by the Green Screen?

Is this just something that Chromator can do, or AE as well?

And that GS effect looks damn good.

I've heard good things about Chromanator, but I use After Effects 5.5 and it has a lot more power and features. You can do all of that in AE. And it's somewhat easy. Chromanator might be more simpler(and cheaper), but AE is better.
As for only covering 3/4, it looks to me they drew a mask around the rest of the fathers body that wasn't in front of the screen, which seems kinda of stupid, he could have fit in front of the whole thing, unless that camera angle was crucial.
I think it was a mask, look in the final clip, some of his leg is more straight.

Yes. You simply mask out what you don't what included. Remember, color screening just makes masking eaiser and more precise.

You dont have to use a green screen , you can create a mask if you like although some things require it

It's amazing what things a "behind the scenes featurete"can inspire us to do!!! That was imitating the techniques used in "Final Destination 2" when the barbed wire cuts a person in 3.

I don't quite get what you're asking, but think I have an idea....... using multiple layers may do the trick. If the GS is to small, The father alone may be one layer, the head may be another and the room may be another, that's why it's called compositing. Just place them in the right position to look real.

You just crop out (or mask) whatever you do not want included in the scene.

True, in ae your actually creating speficic masks around an object, while in pro your applying an effect that keys out (still using a mask) the green and leaves the rest
