Although being overused and unoriginal, it looks really good...

Something is seriously wrong with that.

The first problem I see is that the gradients aren't consistent.

Second, it's too well organized as it comes down.

There's more things that aren't right, but are more a matter of taste and can be stylized (like the use of english characters instead of the backwards katakana).

My digital rain test is http://s94958815.onlinehome.us/downloads/webintro.mov.

I used photoshop and After Effects to create that one. The photoshop was only used to create the font set. If you just wanted to use a more normal font, it can be done with just AE. PM me if you want more info.

actually I cheated at the whole thing. I started out doing it like you did, I created the characters in photoshop, and went through AE following a tutorial online I found. Except it came out horrible, and by that time had put so much time in to it, I said screw it. So, the other day, I downloaded the particle illusion demo, and seen they had some Matrix code thing on there, it wasn't bad, but it wasn' t good either. Anyway, I just exported a clip with that effect, but of course it was watermarked, so In after effects, I just masked one line of code that didn't go through a watermark. Adjusted the color, and added a glow, added a blur. Than just did the lettering myself. Than combined the compositions and thats what I got. I know the code is screwed up, but I didn't create it. This was just a test to see if I could get a somewhat dececent result, before I go back and start from phase 1.

Looks ok, but If you really want it to look good, you should try to do the photoshop hing, because if you can see the characters clearly, it will be so much better.

Looks good. It just needs to be a bit more random feeling.

you can get a Matrix Code font here. Hey, it's quicker than doing each character by hand! Just turn caps lock on and type like crazy!

I have that font. It actually doesn't work out well. The characters are just to fat.
