Just got Photoshop 7

Been playing around with Masks and Layers...

Are Masks used alot when adding some SFX for films?

They can be, however, it really depends on the effect itself. For multiple complex effects, I would recommend After Effects over Photoshop.

What kind of effects were/are you planning on doing?

Simple effects in PS, like a lazer beam from a lazer gun for 4 frames or something. Also the tutorials on NCCinema.

Same here, I'm mostly a video guy, but I occasionaly will use it.
Vamp, I go to NCCINEMA too, and did a few of there effects, all in photoshop. Let me tell you, all those effects can be done in AE, and a lot quicker, and they will look better, trust me.
