Prop RPG-7

Post by MPython8118 »

A friend of mine and I are making a prop version of an RPG-7 for a movie, so I figured I'd post pcitures here. If anyone has any suggestions or anything, that'd be appreciated. I think I can get the plans my friend made when he built it and scan it in, if anyone wants them.

Pictures are here:

plans would be great. I am working on an action movie at the moment myself.
Looks really good. Look forward to seeing the completed product.
Will it fire?

You don't need a parachute to go skydiving. You only need a parachute to go skydiving twice.

Well, we were going to try to make it fire a dummy warhead using a model rocket engine, so it would at least get out of the camera shot before it went off course, but we aren't going to do that anymore, because the current rocket wouldn't fly too well, due to it's lack of fins, and no one really felt like trying to add fins to it, because they'd have to fold.

I'll ask my friend if he can bring in his plans though, then I'll scan them in and post them.

We can start our wonderful adventure just when we get the plans. Actually, come to think of it, let's say you had a whole bunch of padding under your shirt and the camera couldn't tell that it was there, do you think it would hurt that much? With enough padding and good aim, I think it wouldn't hurt that much. So let the adventure begin. :)

Teh key to the not hurting that much is the good aim, which I'll bet is almost impossible with a rocket.

Well, my friend doesn't want to share his plans, he's a little weird and posessive, but I can make some basic plans for how he built it. I just don't have all the measurements for all the pieces. It's basically two pieces of PVC pipe, the smaller piece just barely fits inside the larger piece, and then he made the wooden heat guard with a large block of wood, which he bored out with a large boring bit on a drill, and then used a knife and a saw to shave it down to a cylinder, and then sanded it until it was smooth. The grips are just pieces of wood, which we're in the process of cutting out, and the end cone is made out of sheet aluminum, shaped into a cone using this website as a guide: http://www.red-bag.nl/engintools/calccone.php

Bullshit! There goes all my plans and our wonderful adventure. I would need more detailed instructions in order to build it now.

If you want accuracy I believe what they use in films is a wire to guide the rocket from the launcher and this could be pulled off with some monofilament fishing line. Just my 2 cents otherwise its an awesome prop.

Well, I don't have any more details really, I know that the smaller of the pieces of PVC pipe was 1 1/2" diameter pipe, and I'll get some measurements when he's done with it and I can see it up close. The diameter of the warhead is 88 mm I believe. If I have time, I'll draw up some plans this weekend of the basic design of it.

Yeah I was thinking about that but I am sure if you where creative you could make a sort of deflector on the rocket so that the flames don't contact the filament as much. Or you could probably find some steel thread.
