Titles In After Effects 6.0

I need help animating titles in Adobe After Effects 6.0. I do not know how to use this really good. All I can do is make a new project, import a clip, and mostly screw around with it then. I want to add a title, fading in, then fading out. Can somebody explain how to do this step by step? Thanks.

Ok. I found out how to add a text. But now I need to know how to cut the text to a certain time on the timeline. And how to make the title fade in, then fade out. Please, somebody help.

i know u can fade in text in premiere using the opacity and by creating keyframes and basically if i can remember correctly thats how you do it in AE. go to the start of the timeline add a new keyframe and make the text have an effect so its not visible (sorry i havent used after effects in a while and cant remember - im sure u'll find out how) then create a new keyframe where u want the text to displayed fully and set it so its visible how you want it. create another keyframe and keep the settings the same where you want it to fade out. then finally create the last keyframe and make the text invisible again.

kool glad i cud help - now iv just forgotten how to make keyframes in after effects - i havent used the program for ages! - can u explain how please

btw - i also think that American History X is such a good film!
