Time code video?

Post by padawanNick »

Anybody know of any time code video that I could use as an overlay?
I'm mainly looking for something that would count 29.97fps and/or 30fps.

Have fun!

Computer editing packages such as Final Cut will overlay that for you automatically... Otherwise you're just gonna have to use your video counter on your VCR :P

I've been on the look out for a timecode overlay. I always thought it was a feature that Adobe Premiere should provide.

I've looked on the web assuming that someone somewhere must have spent the time to produce one but without any luck.

Anyone fancy having a go? If I can find the time I might try and sort something out. The best way is going to write a computer program (in visual basic or something) to create the necessary frames.

It would be dead useful when creating draft video cds to stick an overlay over it. would make it much easier to scribble down comments.

Time code specifics?

Post by padawanNick »

OK. I think I'll take a shot at this using Flash. Should be easy to make a variable counter that updates a text item on a black backdrop.

Anyone know the specifics of the time codes?

30fps is easy, but for 29.97fps, which specific seconds drop a frame?
Is PAL exactly 25fps?
24fps should be easy.
Any others?

OK.
I wrote a quick Flash program to output timecode.
30fps and 24fps should be easy.

What is the exact PAL frame rate?
Anyone know which seconds in a 29.97fps video drop a frame?

I should have downloadable videos after the weekend.

PAL is 25 fps... I like PAL 'cus the resolution's high, and if you deinterlace your video footage in premiere it looks like it was shot on film :)

I also use PAL, very easy and effective. Our video system over here is PAL also.

Yeah I think it's mainly the US, Canada and Japan that use NTSC, and some European countries use Secam (which is basically PAL anyway, same resolution, same framerate, just plays in black and white if you play SECAM tapes in PAL players, and vice versa.
