Can you create a light sabre effect using adobe premier?
Also, where is a good place to download copyright free backround music, it would be good to avoid being sued if at all possible.

Premiere is an editing package, so you can't really do much effect work on it apart from simple chroma-key and a few image filters...
There are various other packages that'll do it, 3D Studio can do just about anything once you learn how to use it! The simplest (but a tad time intensive) way of doing it would be to use a Paint Shop Pro trial, and animating the light sabre's frame by frame in the animation workshop.
And just a lil' note which will cause several people to hate me, light sabre effects in home movies is done waaaaay to much
Oh and check out www.theforce.net for help

Personally, I do editing and effects, including sabers, with Media Studio Pro. There are tutorials and examples on my site:

With Premiere, you will also need Photoshop or After Effects. AE can do the effect natively. With Photoshop, you export a filmstrip file from Premiere, add the glows in Photoshop, then reload the filmstrip back into Premiere.
TheForce.net has a few tutorials on this:

Have fun!

Light Saber FX
I have done this effect by freeze framing each frame and painting it. It took about 80 still frames to complete a fluid motion. I did this about 6 months ago.

Yeah it can be a very time consuming job! I had to edit out a smoke whisper from a burning fuse onse in a shot and that was done frame by frame, pixle by pixel!

Just remember the trials and heart ache of the famous monster animator Ray Harryhausen as he animated his multi-headed Hydra for a movie. Sometimes the phone would ring and he would answer it. Upon return he would sometimes have forgotten where he was up to and what had to be moved next!
