Earth explosion

Post by videofxuniverse »

here is something I made as a kind of promo for my site, but was rather surprised on how well it turned out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgC-SDe5PEU

I did it all in after effects and even have a tutorial for it

its pretty good. although the bit where the lights shining through drags on a little bit, i was wondering how it'd look with the music suddenly cuts out and then the zap and explosion happens. the big ring from the whole thing fades out a little too quickly.
but yeh good job.

Strange, I don' t remember that happening..?

World-class joking aside, I think it looks really nice, but the moon exploding look out of place.

I was hoping for chunks of earth to come flying towards the camera!

Other than that, looked ok but looked like generic Particle Illusion explosions

i used the particle system in after effects to blow out the final bits. it was a first attempt so i will more than likely do another better one and tweak it up some

I'd tone down some of the secondary explosions, as Ornsack said, some bits of planet flying out and almost hitting the camera moments after would give a great effect.

Generally a good start. Would like to see it with some tweaks as mentioned.

Massive improvement! I'd say the asteroid should come in from above or something, as it seems a bit odd suddenly appearing.

The Earth explosion is a lot better but I still think it needs more debris coming from it as it appears to vanish.

And the moon still looks wrong.

Oh and the earth's spinning so fast it'd take one minute to experience a whole day!

Yeah, but if he spun it at the correct speed it would take hours to even notice it was spinning, and I think Youtube limits the time to 10 minutes. :)

Realistically the moon is 238,000 miles away... so, it'd take a lot longer to be affected by the explosion, something you might consider. Other than that it looks pretty good.

The moon is too big and it's cold rock - there's nothing to explode. Just engulf it in flames and push away (impact and loss of gravity that hold the moon close to the Earth) But... it doesn't meant to be realistic I guess. Does it?

Generaly OK but I would remove the camera shaking in before the asteroid come and make it stronger during explosion.

You should take away the moon, fix the earth to where there is clouds and stuff and take out the explosion noise, cause there is no sound in space silly :)

The lightrays went to long. The music was... simple, sounded like it was from a windows 95 video game. The two explosions of the planets above the initial explosion ruined the whole effect. Use after effects lightning instead... that sucked. You really don't need the moon in the background. I am mainly looking at the effects then what you are, so its not advertising well.
Just use earth and have the lightrays quickly shine up and go across the words then have the planet explode, to reveal your productions logo in full.

I know, however could you imagine a star w2ars space battle without any sound? Pretty boring.

If I do another one I won't bother putting in a moon again, and yes the asteroid did wipe out everything, because it was massive, even though in videos like this you cant pick up a visual of scale on such things, but all good constructive comments
