Hand passes through object
What is the best way to make someone's hand pass through an object? I'm doing a modern adaptation of act 2 of Macbeth (remember where he is halucinating and sees a dagger? Well, I want Macbeth's hand to go through a gun) The curret thing I am trying is either masking or blue-screening the gun into the footage of Macbeth and then turning the opacity down so his hand can be seen through the gun. But I'd really like it if the gun appeared solid or almost solid and his hand passed through it all the way. Do I just need to do some clever layer transitions in After Effects? Anyone have ideas? Thanks.

RE: Hand passes through object
Think about how the gun would appear in 3D space in juxtaposition to your actor. Then, apply your masking to the actor so that, if this were say an entirely 3D scene in a 3D modelling program, the part where the gun intersects his hand is occluded. Might take some careful thinking about, but you should be able to pull it off.
