Editing Weapon of Choice

Post by angusware »

What does everyone use for editing (and why?)?

I use Final Cut Express because it makes clip management and editing easier and is more powerful than iMovie and the likes.

I use Sony Vegas 7.0, although I started with version 5. I was using some dinky $80 program created by the Sonic Foundry company called Video Explosion Deluxe and I was looking for something more professional and more manageable so I could expand my editing abilities. Gyro was using Adobe Premiere and it looked hard and I asked him if there were any others and all he could think of was Vegas because his neighbor uses it. I looked it up and lo an behold, Vegas was made by Sonic Foundry then bought by Sony. So pretty much, it's what I started out with but 100 times better.

I just got my hands on Premiere Pro 2.0 - considering I'd been using 6.5 for roughly 2 years, my immediate reaction was "How the HELL did I live before Pro!?"

Premiere Pro 2.

It works just as well as other editing programs, and has the same level of professionalism.

As an added bonus, it integrates beautifully with all of Adobe's other effects, DVD, titling, audio, and image software.

I use Vegas 5, started on version 3 and will probably upgrade to 7 when I get some extra scrach laying around. I started with Vegas because I had had some bad experances with both Premere (which I now use at school) and final cut. then I saw a segment on sonic foundrys Vegas video software on TechTV(rest its soul) and I blind bought version three and was able to learn how to use it with out really looking at any manuals or help files.
I also use effectshome effects lab pro for lasers and muzzle flashes and the like becasue I am really lazy and try to avoid using to many computer effects.

I swear by Premire Pro 2, however I'm going to need to learn how use Final Cut Pro HD within the next week seeing as we're going to be cutting on that at school this semester before moving onto Avid Symphony.

Movie Maker's great for the quick edit that needs to be thrown online, with Premiere doing great at all else needed.

Oh yuh, I use iMovie as well for little projects with out major effects + it actually has some interesting effects which I can't be bothered/don't have the time to re-create in other programs.

Ulead Video Studio...hardly pro but gets the actual editing job done as well as anything else. Besides compositing capabilities, though, rather weak in terms of effects, so for most effects I use Hash Animation:Master.

You've answered this three times now!

Not having a go, just read through the threads and take in to consideration what might be useful input and what might not be :D

SonyVegas 6.0, and that's about it. I'm trying to find a bootleg or a torrent of After Effects that works, I can't afford the legit version.
