Blue Screen Help

Post by Dienasty »

Hi, I hope you guys don't get the wrong impression of me, since this is my first post and I'm asking for help. I have been editing since 2004 starting with Pinnacle Studio 8 and moved up to Premiere Pro 1.5. My computer isn't the best thing in the world and I have dial up, which helps nothing. I am running 857 MHz and 192 MB of RAM so lets just say editing on here is a pain, but I love it. I have actually put out 9 or 10 DVDs in all and working on some more. I tried the blue screen effect once and couldn't get it to work and because my computer freezes when I edit, I just gave up on it. Recently I tested again and got it working a little and I need help. I have searched google and places for tutorials on how to use the Blue Screen Key, but can only find things like how to set one up and such. What I'm looking for is just making it look better. You can see when I move little specs show up and on my shorts you can see it. Here is a link of the video I have, it's a .wmv of not even 1MB you can see what I'm talking about..

http://youtube.com/watch?v=cEjQGoLlKck

Here are the effects I used..

Garbage Matte
Color Balance (RGB)
Blue Screen Key
Remove Matte

Again, I apologize for asking for help as my first post. If there is a written tutorial or if there is any advice you can give me, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much!!

With Premiere, that's really as good as you can get, and its better than i did with greenscreen with premiere.
try putting a duplicate of the video on top of the bluescreened one. use a garbage matte to cut out everything except the shorts area. That way, on top you have a clip with just the shorts(area where specks are) and on bottom you have the original clips with all effects

probably hard to understand but if that doesn't help i can post a video of how to do it.

First off you need more light on the blue fabric (I think I have the same size and color, royal blue?). When you have the lgiht on it you will need to stretch it out and pin every 3 inches along your wall so there will be no wrinkles. Then stand at least 5 feet away from it (will stop the spill) and your done.

kene555, thanks for your help, I totally understand what you mean and it really does make sense. I was actually using a thin piece of plastic, I think it was like a table cover for maybe birthday parties or something. I attempted the blue screen again today, before reading the posts and it's probably gotten worse, but I feel that lighting may be a problem. My shadow was also visible. I'm gonna work on getting some fabric and thought about getting a blue tarp. Lines (wrinkles) seem to be a problem as well, but nothing I can't fix. Why is it that I have to put the Color Balance (RGB) layer on top of the blue screen and why with the Color Balance (RGB) do I have to change the settings to 200 to get it to work? I'm guessing it has to do with the lighting? I've heard After Effects does better with this, but then again I'm more familiar with Premiere Pro.

Got good lighting today and tried again. I'm working on an alien skit, I'll post what I have so far in a few minutes and you guys can see what's going on.. to be honest, it doesn't look too bad, but you can tell where I used the Garbage Effect because you can see little specs coming off and on. I'll post the video after I work with it one more time, it's a 1 minute 30 sec and it took a little over an hour to render.. I guess cause it has so many layers.
