I do not think a parachute will help for a jump height of a couple of feet :) Try an army disposal shop

What is the shot you're hoping to achieve? Please describe it in more detail. I can't understand what you're trying to do from that description.

Yes i am trying to work out how the shot will be dangerous. You will probably not need a functional parachute. You couldeasily mock one up with a harness of some sort, cords and a sheet

Its only dangerous if he hits the ground and hurts his ankle.

Yes but from a couple of feet I would not even see that as an issue. Remember to drop and roll lol

I think he is trying to achieve a shot of some one falling to the ground, like they'd parachuted down. But obviously he can't actually make them drop all the way. :D

Gyro posted a WWII film on here awhile ago where he shot paratrooper landing. He just used a sheet and had the actor jump from a ledge into frame. Try something similar just with a bigger piece of material. Here is a link to the film.

Okay... what I did for a world war II film, was take a huge tarp (mine was blue because the film was in B&W) and tie a bunch of rope to the tarp, then tie the rope around the guy. You might want to make a fake harness if your doing close-ups. Then film and have your guy jump as high as possible.... have another guy (out of the scene) throw the tarp into the shot, then have the parachuter roll on the ground as soon as he lands, to show some sort of an impact. It works really well on windy days, because as soon as the other guy throws the tarp into the shot, the wind will help it fly through the air.

TIPS:
-Make sure you have a BIG tarp...
-Make sure the tarp is a good color, such as white, if you're filming in color rather than B&W
-Have your parachuter fall as hard as he can on the ground when he jumps
-Have the guy throwing the tarp throw it so the tarp spreads out in the air (make sure the tarp isnt in a ball... )
-A useful thing is have the guy throwing the tarp throw it onto the character, so then the parachuter hits the ground, and has the parachute land on him, and then push the tarp out of the way as he gets up... (this could make it realistic)

Well... hopefully this helped a little bit... REMEMBER, just be creative, and try to make it realistic so the audience isn't paying attention to the flaws rather than the movie.

Cheers,
SE7
