Essex Psycho - 16mm film from Chelmsford Film Society

Post by PHILIE-T »

Hello,

keep looking at

http://www.essexpsycho.com

for news regarding this film. 16mm is expensive. If you can help out with any costs you will get a credit at the end of the film as an associate producer.

Cheers

its more to develop it, like 2 grand for a 10 min. film, I love 16mm but because of the cost I will never use it.

I could only find the Essex strimmer preview film, too short to make a fair appraisal. The Make up FX on your web page looke very good, I thought, and will look particularly good on film. As you will probably have realised by my web name, I'm a huge fan of film despite the costs. I find because of this I am far more disciplined than if I am shooting video; planning in much greater detail and stricter on the shoot. I keep the 16mm stuff to special pet projects, I use a bolex and would really love to have it converted to super 16, for proper widescreen, but that's what dreams are made of!
I prefer the look of film to video, it's a bit like comparing vinyl with CD sound; analogue vs digital, it's a matter of taste.
Good luck and carry on filming...

Am I correct in saying that you can only get 8mm film developed by facilities in London and Switzerland?

I don't even think you can get it done in London. Everyone I know sends it off elsewhere.

Back on topic, pretty cool lil' blog. You're absolutely not selling it to potential buyers though with a site like that though! More info please :)

(Not that I can donate. I'd buy my own 16mm stock for my own films if I had money)

There are a couple of Super 8mm labs in Europe, most stuff goes to Andtec in Germany. Now that Kodak have replaced kodachrome (which they processed in Lausanne) with Ektachrome 64, there may be an increase as the process is (relatively!) simple E6. There are also a couple of companies in the States, namely Pro 8mm and Dwaynes ( a modern lab that converted a 35mm processor to handle 8mm and 16mm). If you shoot neg stock such as Vision 200 (8 or 16mm) you can actually have this processed in Camden, London by Todd-Ao, but as they are a Professional outlet, you pay a pro price, plus you have to have the lot telecined as you can't project it as it's neg. Fantastic service tho-next day. They charge about £150 for min 500ft of 16mm including a one light transfer which ain't that bad (But is absolutley shocking compared with video)
