"Fight until you Almost Die"

Post by ctbullet »

there has been a lot of talk about making a fight sequence so i thought i'd give it a go

http://wolfvisionp.tripod.com/id24.html

would appreciate feedback, i do apologise in advance for:

1. one second he's on the ground the next he's on his feet, it has annoyed me more than it ever will you
2.garage open, garage closed
3. change of footwear

etc etc

But other than that i am quite pleased it was fun to do!

Looked like a pretty lazy fight if you know what I mean. A storyboard and a little emotion might help haha. There were a few nice looking cuts and punches though. Knife cut seemed to do the job.

"Fight until you Almost Die"

Post by rhys »

Im going to write down what i think as it happens.
There modern comedy cowboys. No guns, its a comedy, that spin kick was too slow. I didnt like the angle of the kick that makes him fall to the ground, he randomly flys up, as u said. The punches were easily know that there fake, too slow and not forceful enough. The punch to the back didnt look real and he didnt fall at all. Actings pretty lame... Lol the stunts are pretty lame, its like a version of neo that has only had 5 mins study. His hands change holding the stick, the kick was a little off, try from the kickers angle to make it look like it acutally hits. All of his wounds dont look like they hurt, and he pulls out a knife and stands up straight, which would be stretched out, bleeding and very painful. The end punch and kicks looked good, but the angle wasnt that great, even if u merely cut a small part off the front it would look better. And all of a sudden the guy he put to the ground is up again. The last thing was a little shabby though, the punch was good but you should have cut a little off when the fist is moved back to be thrown.
Nice work, i hope i dont sound mean at the moment but they are some things u could improve on. Keep making them, it will liven this place up a little, i was on matt hawkins for 11 and a half hours and about 7 replies to threads were made in the entire day.

cheers buds,
it was a lazy friday afternoon in which we filmed it,
it was supposed to have a comedy value we weren't trying too hard,

we'll do something else and try to wow you with some good stuff...

as for the knife changing it was actually a garden trowl, and we used the same one

yeh i no some of the cuts are off, we forgot about it when filming, but it kinda works

and also.......i don't no if any of you noticed we used fake blood, we decided to be clever and make our own and i got some good footage f my mate almost pukeing, will probably post it, rather amusing

thanks for the comments anyway

Contradiction #473 by user: rhys

A post like that made you cry like a baby when i said stuff like that... remembeeeeeer?

ctbullet Are you the emo kid in the hat? Not making fun or anything just looks like a traditional emo outfit I see on most of my friends when they are wearing clothes. Which is mostly all the time. Anyway I got to see story of the year the other night... pretty sweet considering noone ever comes to this massive island.

Um crit is... That it started out really sweet the cuts and angles were all cool. Then as it went along it got craaaaaap lol the thing i notice with most you younger guys when your editing is how you put your shots together when there is an identifiable movment to keep continuity between shots. Its good to cut away prematurely to the other shot so the movment doesnt finish. But some of that editing was way too unplanned. The thing about fighting sequences is the speed and the movment makes it believable. Try and utilize a camera angle that fakes perspective and then you can really wail on the other guy without being scared youll actually hit him because your a foot or so away. Movies do it all the time.... Fakesters.

no, lol, i'm the other guy, amazingly he isn't offended by you calling him an emo, he isn't though (skater)

as for the fight scene, yeh i agree now,

editing is very difficult to salvage if the material lacks flow, it only took about 30mins filming and we didn't really think about the next shot too much,

we did speed some of the motions up to make them look like they have a larger impact, not really noticeable but still..... and we will work on the cuts

thanks again

haha dude the amount of times i get called emo.... its rediculous i blame it on MTV funny story but it would take us off topic. Instead of fights check out the new post i put up here i think it would be an awesome excercise for the film makers instead of the effects artists

There were a few kicks/punches that you could tell were not near hitting the person. But the knife thing was pretty cool

Yes arronv2, that stuff did make me cry back then, but i was eleventeen, and didnt exactly know how to deal with that, because half of the time you said stuff like that u would add 'I hated it, try growing up and learn something'

lol yer the knife thing was quite fun even though it was A TROUL we couldn't find a decent knife that wasn't gonna kill me, so i picked it off the ground lol and just turned really quickly lol, got cr** all over my hand, ctbullet didn't tell me what he used it for
:poke:

As for the kicks and punches, it was pretty hard to get the camera angle right when it was just the two of us, but i recon in the future somme cooler editing could change all that

It was decent. Pretty much all my criticisms have already been said. Key words, tighter editing. Stuff like, if hes doing a running kick, and you cut it at him lifting his leg up, in the next cut have it start half way through his kick. The movements go so much better.

Oh,lol, and a.gotsa.fan, in the shot where you get kicked in the face. I could definitely tell you had huge mouthful of blood ready to spit out. Looked cool when it hit the wall though.

Mr. Anderson, did you just quote A Clockwork Orange? I can see that you are quite the Kubrick fan. To me he was the best director but he was also a little weird.

haha yes i did. Quite nerdy of me i know. I just recently got to see A Clockwork Orange in its entirety, so its fresh in my head. And he was a bit strange definitely. I just love the way he films and his choice of sound and music.
