Flames far too bright.

Post by Recogged »

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to reduce the glare using a mini-DV camera when filming flames at night... What I'm trying to get is the distinct shape and orangey hue of the flames like you see in the movies without it just becoming a big bright dominating blob which is what is comes out as on camera. Tried playing with the white balance but it just obscures the other details of the shot and doesn't seem to make much difference... I'm trying to get a really atmospheric shot where a guy holds a letter up to a candle flame to get a better look at it...

I'd recommend playing around with your shutter speed. Try using some lighting from the back o_O
