That is most definitely a deactivated grenade body. The hole is drilled through the bottom and the fuse assembly is absent.

Still wouldn't handle it if I were you, unless you're trained in explosives. Get the number for your local fire dept. (not 911) and tell em' about it. Chances are they'll be more than willing to come over and have a look.

its hollow and heavy

my dad said it was there for a while and is part of an engine... Idk if he really knows though, the bottom hole looks like it was made with a huge screw because the hole looks like it can be twisted on to a screw, I hope its a grenade, that'd be cool.

They sell that stuff at the local surplus store. Heck, I have about 25 of various types from the making of our film. There should be one hole that is smooth where they just drilled the bottom out while the other hole will be threaded. This is so it can accept the fuse assembly. As long as its hollow, all you have is a dummy grenade. More than likely, it was a practice grenade in the first place, so no explosive was ever put into it.

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m61.htm . Yes, dummy grenades are heavier as they are made out of far cheaper metal.

I picked up a deavtivated grenade from the local surplus store. Mine was a pinaple style, with fuse assembly, but no explosives. The scale of them and the holes in both sides are consistent with yours. Decision: It's a grenade
