THE DUMBEST THING IVE DONE IN A LONG TIME
Well, a long time ago, i purchased an XP pro license for my HP comp...formated it, turned xp home into pro...well there was a drive called "HP_recovery"....that was still there after i reinstalled xp...well i tried to delete it today, and didnt realize it was a logical drive, meaning its on the same disc drive as my main windows, and was just partitioned out...had my boot.ini on it...i formatted it...DAMNIT...all this pain and suffering had to reformat again today...just let this be a lesson to myself and others...watch closely what your doing. cause in the long run you'll lose all your data and everything else...

Yeah, dude, that blows. I did that, only deleted my 160 gig external drive with all of my school work and DV projects fromt he past 4 years on accident. Beer didn't halp matters either. It's all good tho, cause now I have 100 gigs left to fill.
Pretty much purged 4.5 years of my lifes work.

I lost 250 gigs of videos and school projects last year 2 days before our final open house. That was the most stressful 2 days of my life. I've never spent so much time running around begging for copies of my own work, and stuck in a small editing suite.blue_dirt wrote:Yeah, dude, that blows. Backup stuff to removeable media as well. It is the only way to be sure.

Use rewritable CDs or thumb drives.

DVDs are cheap enough to back up all of your work.

yes, DO make backup CD's! I've got the kind of computer that crashes about once every six months, at least... - I'd prefer a USB disk with loads of storage though, as they are less likely to become ruined (as CD's have a tendency to do).
btw, slightly off topic, but: How often should I change the battery on my laptop? If I don't do that soon, I've got a feeling I'll end up with loosing pages and pages of whatever I might be writing the moment my computer decides to give up... (it has done it once allready).
