yes, maybe leaving the cardboard on (it seperates the charge from the confetti) and adding very thin blood then making the cup that holds the blood not as long.
I can't seem to find any red powder. I tryed kool-aid, but it a purplist color (or sometimes pink). But if you did find a red powder it would look good.
Yeah, red powder does work good, I've used it for extreme wide shots, where liquid blood would be gone too fast to see on screen. Powdered tempura poster paints work best, and if you can only find the stuff that turns red after you add the water, you can always mix up a thick paste, let it dry, then grind it down fine. (Less work than it sounds.)

For the ground and tree hits im going to add half talk half dirt, the only problem is dirt doesnt "float" like talk.
I cud add food dye to the talk and let it dry, i might try that.
As DEDFX said, for a close-up shot I am going to fill 1/4 of the popper with talk and then put the cap back on halfway down, fill te top with blood and do it quickly. That way blood will splatter the shirt and the body puff will make it even better
A bullet hit to the ground BARELY makes any dirt fly up like a pinch would fly up. I have used a rifle before and hit the ground, just do a little more than a pinch so your sure it will be shown.
Next time I go out to the firing range I video tape it. Me and my friend we like to set up a bottle and see who can't hit it the most (he uses an AK-47, I use a M1a Socom), and the dirt (well, not really: mostly sand) really floats up there.

Also, for the ground and tree hits, try using very finely ground up dirt ( as close to the texture of talcum powder as you can get), or cocoa powder works too. The brown looks more like dirt (or bark) than the white powder

Me and DEDFX tried out this bullet hit method yesterday. They came out ok, but not as good as yours because we had no powder. We used this sand-like gravel and dirt. I have to say its kinda hard to get the timing down too. I guess we need more practice if we're going to perfect it. Tree hits were also alot easier to do than chest hits(well for us)We had some problems hiding the string. All in all i think this method works pretty well though. Oh yah and we filmed it so maybe DEDFX will post some of it for you guys to see.
well the string dusnt show up that well on camera, we used blue nylon, but are going to use fishing wire, which is practically invisible on film. I was going to use thread but it wasnt strong enough
Idk why i didnt think of that before, fishing line wood be perfect. Also, how did u guys hide the person pulling the string? Would he hide in a part of the woods that had alot of camo? Or did you film him out of shot?
