An early good morning to you all!
I just watched the film 'The Last Clown' and yeah well, I did have a rough idea that these were three guys coming together at the end of the world, and that it was about something irreverent (like a circus) but in completely bizarre circumstances.
I think btw DEDFX, you really should expand on your critique also than saying 'i didnt get it' which could by itself seem slightly offensive!
Well to me the film was obviously metaphorical with its brush, (i didnt quite understand what the brush was however, it may not be that necessary to understand exactly what it is for the film to be relatively succesful in entertaining the audience.)
Which i think it does, but for a select audience, it is obvious that this is more of an arthouse film, and is slightly theatrical (as in theatre) in its use of dialogue and what one can describe as physical theatre (its slapstick.)
I think it was quite amusing, irreverant, and far more sophisticated than most of the films shown here.
Its downside is, that it is irreverant, hence if your film was meant to have some relevance tha was quite serious, (and i suspect it did) at least in part, then you must make the use of symbolism and metaphor (such as your paintbrush) a lot clearer for the audience to understand. Even in an arthouse type film, accessibility is vital.
On another point, the visual look of the film was visually uniformal, and i expect some filters were used to give it a look, as it appeared a bit more like film than normal mini dv. I think this was creative and worked.
The animation at the end, while crude fulfilled its purpose of a comic ending.
// says i posted this at 4:30 am? but its 5:35 am where i am? lol
