Film Making Books
We are now starting our new studio, and advertisements for new members have already gone into the local paper - within the story of our film's premiere - and into our film's programe, which was given out at the premiere. So, for these new members, and to further the existing members' knowledge, I was wondering which movie making books you fellow Amateur film makers would recommend reading.
It can only benefit our shot capturing having some literature to refer to for ideas, and from there we can try new things. I have seen that Gyro has put up sections of a book from the 70s that helps with shots, but was wondering about newer/recent editions of books. Please help!

RE: Film Making Books
Cinematography: Theory and Practice. Written by Brown. Perhaps the best book on filmmaking I have read to date.
Film Directing: Shot by Shot is a good one too!

For Special FX: "Secrets of Hollywood's special Effects" by Robert E. McArthy. It has a bit of EVERYTHING regarding FX: pyro, flying, rain, snow, cars, guns, squibs, etc.

RE: book
I wouldn't spend my money on a special effects book, personally. I've read through that one, and I think just about most of it you can online. I believe if you are going to spend $50 on a book, put it towards the theory of movie making. There is much more out there to be learned than special effects too!
Don't get me wrong, it is a good book.
