Film making and the Law

Post by jcdenton »

I wonder how this is handled in your countries. In Switzerland they have some special Laws that allow them to prohibit a Movie and punish its makers when it obstructs some paragraphs that are disallowing:

-Extreme brutality
-Some pervert porno variants

Although you can buy a lot of bloody splatter stuff etc. it may happen that native movie makers are criminalized for making a splatter.

Some guys I know who made the Movie "Blutgeil" (may be translated as "Bloodlust") where criminalized, and their movie is now illegal. It wasn't more brutal than any other cannibal movie, but they used to eat a Cop in the film. Probably this was the reason why they used to get so much troubles. A special commando force then stormed their house one morning and confiscated every computer, videotape and paper. The cops also filmed their Razzia in a first person perspective mode. Now that was real crazy.

Now I feel kind of bound, my artistic freedom is limited by the law - in fancy switzerland. Not that I plan to make cannibal movies, but do I really have to use green color for the blood splashes or something now?

You cannot prohibit anything really in the US. Hence, the first amendment, as long as you follow the rest of the laws.

Whoa, thats a new one. Houses being raided.

Here, the law probably wouldn't prohibit anything.
