Se7en Color Correction

Post by maj_barnes »

Been watching the DVD features on Se7en and found a great one that I really enjoyed, thought I'd share the love. Basically a step by step video with commentary on how they color corrected and re-framed shots in the final scene of Se7en. The rest of you may not be as much of a geek for this stuff as me, but f*** you. Split into two parts since it's 14min altogether.

CONTAINS SPOILERS Don't ruin a great ending by watching this if you haven't seen it.

Thanks for finding it on YouTube!

A friend of mine lent me the DVD just for this extra a while back and I learnt so much about grading (although I still think Hollywood over-grade these days)

Another good one to look at is the extras on the first LOTR extended edition

That's true, but I don't mind it.

Its allways worth taking a reference photograph with a decent stills camera so that you can use it later for colour correction.

Another david fincher movie "Panic Room" in the big box set has a great piece on grading as well. Along with other stuff that made my brain bleed when I watched it ;)
Low/No budget cinema that looks like a million Bucks!

There's a great book entitled, New Cinematographers that goes into great detail about Darius Khondji (I can never pronounce his name correctly) and the way he bleach bypassed the entire shoot. Sort of a inspiration to what Kaminski did on Private Ryan.
