Is there a good Mac alternative to stick figure animation software or anything of that nature?

Bonix iStopMotion, cheap and you can use it without paying.
you can also just use iMovie, i started by using that and capturing a small amount of video from my camera connected directly to iMovie.
You can cut it down and have more flexible speeds by changing the speed in the effects thing...
