Red One!

Post by ALove »

Seeing as how I love this camera, and how NAB is coming up this weekend, I thought I'd devote a thread to it. They should be releasing the workflow, and according to Jim Jannard, we won't be disappointed. It's looking like I will probably rent one for my feature, but I'll probably not take advantage of 4k, unless it proves to work really well on a fairly basic PC or Mac. I guess all this begs the question though....

Anyone got one reserved? :D

No... but I've spent countless hours reading up on them. Very, extremely excited to play with one.

they released the price list!!!!

Like a month ago! but who cares! i can't afford it anyway..

But this camera is the future of filmmaking, now no one will have an excuse to use film, (im not getting into a film/video debate, the last kid that did that is still in counseling)

get this:
Some rental companies have stated that they'll be renting the Red ones out for $5000 a week!

so in four weeks, you could have bought the camera and lens

Look guys in the end of the day the 'point' of the Red is as a competitor to 35mm, its definatley not for kids and gimps to make shorts on anyway. Even if you could afford to hire it for a film, if the production values and quality of lighting and everything else wasnt great - it would look terrible in an utterly new level of terribleness - in 4k lol. (why else hire the camera but to shoot in formats above 2k) hehe

Damn thats hot. Doesn't even really look like a cammera, seems like it could be the base of a tri-pod from war of the worlds or something. Eather way I think I'll stick with my crappy prosumer dvcam, till I hit the big leages then totaly going to have to get soemthing like this. and 5k a week or even a month thats just nuts. With the way we make movies now think what we could do with our normal stuff and 5k.

If I end up renting it, I'll probably hire a DP.

So the red one booth at NAB featured a short film made by our good friend Peter Jackson, apperently hes been liking these new cams. and asked the team if he could shoot some stuff with them,, and he ended up making a full blown ww1 short film... Which is insane... even though i can never afford this beast i will want it so badly.. 4k resolution
