question to music lovers

would the song 'children' by robert miles be a good song to use in a scene say....dramatic but slowed down and with a lot of emotion?

No. It's too fast paced. I like the idea of using something unconventional but it just wouldn't match.

If you remember the video, I thiiink it was a girl looking out the window of a moving car, which is the complete opposite of what you're trying to do, and I think it worked pretty well.

Plus I think using dance music in any film that isn't a straight to video British "lads night out" type film is wrong

Good song though, heard it the other day in the cinema before a film and it brought back all kinds of memories.

yeh..it has that effect on many people:P..hmm..what about impending disaster..like the day before everything went wrong....like im going to try and make a movie on a bus the day before a disaster happrens....would the song go well with shots of outside the bus and it going into the sunset..kinda like top gear shots?

Dramatic scenes need to be strings and piano music. I don't think that song would work anywhere, not even outside the bus.

so don't use music. The biggest mistake you can make is putting music where it doesn't need to be. Suspence can be built best with just sound effects that are really clear and precise.
examples are Napoleon Dynamite (there are some really good sound FX in that) and Casino Royale (in the Poker scene)

I don't think there's many scenes you can use that music for to be honest.

I always think back to the T-Rex vs car scene in Jurassic Park, or the cities being wiped out in Independence Day. Two fantastic scenes of disaster, and no music. And it works so well.

yhe i know and im not going to use amy music for those eyecatching action scenes...antoerh example i thought was good was no music when the terrorists hijacked untied 93....but normally you would use music leading up to it..how about the end of a normal day ...''children'' would give like a sense of calm before the storm..then it comes into the next day full of tension and horror..

I really don't think there's anywhere you can use it apart from maybe a montage sequence!

I dunno why you're trying to fit music to a scene, you should use music for inspiration, film the thing, and then see what music fits the pacing, if any.

its just one of those songs that i cant get out of my head and seems like it could fit into a certain less....destructful part in a movie..i know..i'll make the part spacifically and add on the music to it...so it will mix good..then for reference i'll have some of the day of doom part in as well..and for further reference the movie isnt called day of doom..good title thoug...but UNITED 45A:P

Thanks to this thread I'm now hooked on 90's club music... again. Meh, I could be listening to worse things. And as Ornsack said, "Children" isn't suited to anything more than clubbing videos. Or perhaps bad toothpaste commercials, those always seem to use the most out of place music.

Problem with this choice of song is that it's euphoric, not dramatic. Try choosing something else.
