How do you guys direct Music Videos?
I am going to make a music video soon. How do you guys film it? Any Tips?

I'm doing this for the first time soon and I'm quite excited by it! Gonna try and do something more than just film the band playing in a room 'cus that's far too easy 
My advice (not that I've got any right to say this, but just going on instinct) is to film as many cut-aways as you can, 'cus there are gonna be certain parts of the video that matching singing or instrument playing up to the music is gonna be a ball ache

Listen to the song and think about all the things that fit patterns of sound that are in the song, so thundering drums could be trains or marching or a lightning storn...etc.
Try to get as many long shots as you can (don't listen to that guy^^^) because film clips that cut away all the time show that the director isn't able to sync sound. If you need to sync, shoot each shot with the entire song playing through once, so you can choose exact in and out points with the audio track over the top of the camera microphone.
Instruments are hard to make synced, if you can find someone who plays the guitar and rums and all the instruments and get them to learn the song, then just mime it.
It will be harder for you because you dont have the origrinal band playing.

Shoot it from start to finish in erms of the song, and find parts of the song that ehxibit a particular instrument or vocalist. Use those bits for close-up queues (you can have more)
and shoot those after you have shot coverage in all the different locations/characters filming everything.
If you want to tell a story, film the story from start to finish to get the flow of the song, give everyone involved a chnace to know what the music is doing while they are acting.
Be sure to break down each scene with the cast and crew so you can get exact ryhthms and hit the notes with the movements to be mimed/played on instruments or hit with actions such as walking to the beat or fighting to the beat.

Come up with an idea according to how the song makes you feel, or what you think of when you listen to the song. After that, plan it out shot for shot, as you won't be shooting coverage and editing two long strands of footage together or anything like that. This is one of those things where you 'edit as you go,' where you plan out in your head how you're going to edit while you're shooting, filtering out the extraneous stuff that will just end up on the cutting room floor anyway.
