"The Insider" Lenses?

Post by maj_barnes »

There are a few scenes in the movie "The Insider" (if you haven't seen it, it's amazing) that looks like they used a very odd lense. It creates the appearence that the sides of the frame are in focus but the middle is out of focus. I was wondering if anyone knows how they may have done this.

I'm pretty sure it's a filter.

Yeah I think F.F.F. is right, theres many filters that can make whatever part of the picture blurred/out of focus if you want it to.

I thought the same thing, but if you notice the head towards the left. The blur contours to the head: so that made me think lense; unless they went into major rotoscoping.

lol this is a bit f a conspiricy theory but ---

They shot it twice without moving the camera. The first shot the forground is in focous with the back ground out of focous. The second has the background in focous. They place shot two ontop of shot one and use the right half of it (feathering down the middle)

Thats how i would get this shot anyway
