oh the horror!

Post by bloodymess »

oh the horror indeed, I've got a dv tape that I want to transfer on my comp, but when I went to plug my camcorder (my cam is new, and I didn't tried to transfert anything yet), I realise something that gave me chills: MY PC HASN'T A FIREWIRE OUTPUT! is there another way to transfert my clips? if not, how much does it cost to install one(firewire output)? please help me!

I assume you mean a Firewire input, not output, since you're wanting to transfer from your camcorder to the PC.

Yes, there's a very simple solution. Most PCs don't have Firewire; you have to install the card seperately. That's gonna run you from $10 to maybe $50 depending on what card you get. But it's a simple install, you just plug the card into a PCI slot on your motherboard. Here's a link to quite a selection of PCI firewire cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... re&Ntk=all .

I had the same problem with you but yeah bought a fireward card and installed it into my PCI slot.
But one reminder, the firewird card for notebooks and desktops is different. For notebooks : 4 - 4 pin
for computer, 4 - 6 pin.
