I think the world is changing now. Star wars was filmed on HD few years ago. Wait a few years and everything will be in HD.

....wait a few years? erm no, i would like a new camera in the next month or so. I was asking is the hd feature wasted if i dont have a high def tv? I wasn't asking how the world is changing. I also don't see me buying a HD tv, for quite a bit

Well, just because you can't see it in HD right now doesn't mean it's wasted. It gives you higher resolution to work with in post, and if you ever market it HD could be a big selling point. Basically what I'm trying to say is, it doen't hurt.

Oh ok. Yes you need HDTV to view HD films. The world cup is also filmed in HD. It's just another feature. If it's normal TV, the 'shorts' will just switch to normal ones.

Ye, i think i might go with the hc3. I will be buying it soon, when i have some money. Also, you can connect an external mic with the hc3 on the hot shoe. The downside to this is that there are only two choices of microphones, so the variety is very small, but i am certain that sony will bring out more in the future.

Can't the HC-1 film in SD? Cause if it can, get the HC-1 and use that; you'll be ready for the future with a great camera now. And no, HD is not wasted, you can downrez the footage from the HD cam to get incredibly sharp near 4:4:4 SD footage.

If your tv is not hd, it will be chaned to SD. The tape you use can be normal miniDV tapes or HD miniDV tapes.

You *NEED* an 1080i HD cam to get the 4:4:4 SD. And you'd be ready in the future. Whoever started this thread, get the HC1, its really a great camera.
