HD or 3CCD?

Post by pdj »

What's everyone think of the new HD cameras being released? Is it worth doing the switch yet or, just buy a good 3CCD? I'm looking to update and am not sure where i should go..

I would have to say to mix it up depending on the movie and difference in shots. For example, sometimes when adding in special effects you may lose something graphix wise in the editing process. Thats a good time to use an HD. On your normal shots use a 3CCD. The combination should make the cameraflow pretty even. In this case you wouldn't have really detailed shot mixed in with muffled shots. There's always room for vintage shots with older cameras also.

HUH??? :?

I saw I think a sony thats $1,500 for HDV. I would say the camera with the most lines of resolution...

But what has better graphics? HDV or 3CCD's (3- 1/3 chips)?

I have a Sony HDR-HC1, which is HDV. I highly recommend it. I've never used a 3 CCD camcorder before, but the quality of my camcorder is awesome. It doesn't use a CCD, it uses a CMOS sensor. The video looks the best when you have a lot of light. The price is very low right now. I bought it when it was $1800 about a half a year ago. Now it can be bought for $1350. It had had a major price drop from the MSRP, which is $2000.

I think you should buy this as your next camcorder.

Thanks for your replys..Slimdog55, i agree that the HD is a great cam i just cant afford the dam thing! For now, Id like to settle with a good 3ccd chip cam that will deliver great results. I'll have to settle with tweeking my videos in post.. Anyone used or owns a Panasonic NVGS500?

Is there a few other 3CCD cams people can reccomend to buy (and stay away from)

Thanks all again

EDIT**
After searching more i found this JVC HD cam at a reasonable price..

Yeah, I'd say going the route of the HDV is a good choice. Remember, it uses a CMOS sensor, rather than your CCD. So the picture is pretty darn good.

Trust me, you're going to love it. The quality is just amazing! I would suggest you update your computer if you haven't already. (Processor, RAM, Graphics Card, Sound Card, ect...)

Sony HDR-HC1

Post by Siratramus »

The Sony HDR-HC1 is a brilliant camera. I am doing some fighting work on a film at the moment which is being shot on this camera. When the film is finished it is going to mbe burnt onto 35mm.

*interesting fact*

Also there was an aussie film made reasently called "Wolf Creek." It was also shot on the same camera and burnt to 35mm. The end result was of such a quality that Quinten Tarintino bought himself a person copy of the movie on 35mm.
There is nothing more tragic than seeing your family torn apart by something a simple as a pack of wolves.
