LANC feature is used with sound recording devices to synchronize time stamps. That way when you put the soundtrack and video together in editing, it line up flawlessly.

I've never seen any LANC audio gear, it is all for remote control of the record function, zoom etc, never saw anything that would allow you to synch audio from an external recording device use LANC. I suppose theoretically it could looking at the protocol, but it would require a dedicated piece of hardawre that was able to read the timecode in the LANC protocol and then translate that and send it to the audio device in a recognizable format. Have any links to something that does allow control of external recording? That would be an awesome addition for field work

Possibly this is because the only thing I've used LANC connections for was in matching up audio.

This is the deck we have installed to synchronize the timestamp. It can record up to 8 channels and even midi. We pretty much built a portable rack from scratch so we can easily move the system around altogether.

Sweet rig, now if there was just a way to stuff timecode on 5 DV cameras it would be perfect for multicam synching LOL.... we generally have 4 or 5 video tracks we synch to the master audio track. Still would be nice to have the TC synch for one cam tho. May have to explore the possibilities further.
