Poor Quality exporting from Premiere

Post by Holdios »

I'm new at this so forgive me if this is a dumb question.

My Samsung camcorder records onto a mini tape, and I import directly from that onto my computer using Adobe Premiere 6.

Now, when I'm editing it, the quality looks decent (for a camcorder it's pretty good.) But, as soon as I save it as a movie file, the quality is noticably grainier and looks more pixelated. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. Does exporting a movie from Premiere reduce it's quality?

I should mention that this same thing happened to me when I used Windows Movie Maker.

Are you exporting to a lossless format? Essentially the only "true" lossless format is AVI uncompressed (no DIVX!) although there are many different variations of AVI out there. Basicaly, make sure your settings aren't downgrading the final product.
