Snowy Camera Problem

Post by Almondo99 »

Hey I have a Canon ES8400 and it won't playback video, all I get is snow. I've tried tapes I know there's footage on and nothing shows up. I tried recording some footage and playing it back right away and I still get snow. It's in good condition, but I don't know, is it the tapes or the camera? Any help or information would be apprecitated.

Have you tried running a head cleaner through the camera? That may not solve the problem, but it's certainly a start.
Erm... yeah...

Would Best Buy sell them? How much would one go for?

I've seen them for sell between $5-10 anywhere. Sometimes tape head cleaners come with a new camcorder.

Would air dusting the thing work?
I already have one, and I wouldn't have to get a tape head cleaner if that works.

I bought a Dynex head cleaner for my cam for 8 bucks from Best Buy... wow. It's very delicate and looks like its gunna brake in your camera. The"dirty video head" thing never pops up so I guess it cleansed it alright. Stay away from Dynex, get a Sony cleaner.

Air duswing won't remove any oxide build up from the heads, which is what would be causing your problems. It definitely sounds like dirty heads, or perhaps a tape path issue.
