PLEASE HELP !

Post by UMA »

First, let me introduce myself: I'm 24, I live in Romania (Europe) and I wanna make a movie. I need to buy a cam (not an expensive one because I don't have the money-I live in a poor country) and I also need information about how to start making this bloody movie. If anyone can help me please do!
Thanks a lot!

How do you want to distribute ?

How do you want to end up distributing the movie when you have finished it ? VideoCD, DVD or Casette tape
For VCD there isnn't much point in using anything better than an 8mm camera.
For casette you might want to consider one of the higher resolution analogue format camera which usually gives you comperable quality to SVHS.
If you intend on DVD then I'm afraid a DV camera is the way to go.
I terms of a PC and capture card
VCD and VHS - We used a Pinaccle Studio DC10+ PCI, (128.07 UK Pounds from dabs.com) capture card with a 400MHz PC
For DVD you will need a FireWire card, these are quite cheap now.

If you wanna go all "Dogma" then all you'll need is a cheap camcorder (VHS or VHS-C) and an old VCR to do rough edits. It's not the best set-up, but it's a great way to learn!

Yeah i started editing/filming with a sony camcorder and 2 VCRS, and a stereo linked in as a sound board of sorts. Had to make a new clean copy of the film everytime someone wanted one though. The sugnal degredation at times was shocking especially through an editing board i later bought and a dedicated title board!:D

Yeah my finished edits used to be 3rd generation copies by the time I'd finished editing! And then I'd have to use that as the copy master...

My official SONY title board bought back in roughly 1995 cost me $600, my first editing board cost me $400 second hand!

Ohh the injustice
