Panasonic GS5 Camcorder

Post by Matt »

The camcorder I bought recently is a Panasonic GS5. It does everything it claims to so I am really pleased with it. One of the reasons I paid the extra to get the GS5 rather than the GS3 is the fact it has an SD card which can store photos, MPEG4 clips and audio recordings.

Thought the audio recordings would be a convenient way of recording additional dialogue and sound effects.

I found out yesterday that you can not play the files on a PC ! Thought this was a bit stupid so I sent Panasonic an email ...

I've just bought a Panasonic GS5 camcorder. one of the listed features is the ability to record audio to the sd card. Ive just read in the instructions that the sd voice files can not be played on a pc.

what possible use is this feature if i can't playback the files on the computer i use for video editing? Have I just bought a 700 pound dictaphone ?

This was the response I got ...

PROBLEM RESOLUTION:
Dear Mr Hawkins,

Thank you for your e-mail.

In response I would explain that the voice recording feature of the camcorder does not have any resemblance to the rest of the features which the camcorder has. For example, you can transfer MPEG4 movies from the SD card to the PC via the USB connection, you can also transfer your main DV recordings to PC via a computers Firewire port if it has the capability to do so, as the £700 dictaphone can also be used as a camcorder.

Kind regards,
Customer Support

Thanks Panasonic for the help!! Would have been nice if you answered the bloody question. I wonder if they show all their customers such contempt.

Lol! Woah the madness of it all... They've never been clear about their products anyway, just look at their website...

Oh Matt, while we're at it, does your Panasonic have "frame mode" or "progressive scan" mode??? I know some Panasonics do and I'm desperate for a camera with this option...

Hey, that Panasonic GS1 I mentioned in the GENERAL section- it has progressive scan mode. And the GS1 should be pretty cheap by now.
