If you look hardly at www.findsounds.com you can find some decent ones, That's what I've done in the past but I've never done a film where the sword sfx are a huge part.

I like swords, well, ya know collecting them. But, I don't like having them in my movies, but knives are ok.

Try banging some metal spoons together. They ring pretty nice but are a little too high pitched. Slowing them down in an audio editing program.

Try recording clanging long, narrow sheets of metal together.

Or just go to a medeival festieval and ask them to record sounds for them.

Only thing is, deadlogics gone now so theres not much point in posting here. Unless someone else needs sword sounds anytime soon, which is why i'm suggesting the fact of going to a festieval. I've done it before, they were all really nice, but I didn't think of asking for sounds, nor did I have equipment with me, nor did I need the sounds.

I'm most surprised that Foxwood hasn't posted on this thread yet!

Talking about recording sound, what do you guys use to record your original Sound FX?

I was thinking about getting some kind of digital music player with a mic input.

No, your going to want sophistcated recording equipment, mainly the mic. I don't know to much about it, but it will cost you most likley over 700$.

If you want some good "sword clashing" sound effects; you can pull the soundtrack from the final sword fight in Rob Roy and edit that to your likeing.

No... that's something I would do! I'm the quality enthusiast! :D

Really, an mp3 portable recorder and a $30-70 radio shack microphone will do fine for sound effects.
