...Getting back on topic here [...you guys were making me hungry, though], you can probably steal a good snapping noise from a computer game. FPS games have sound effects of bones breaking from falls and such -- something perfect for a neck snap. Just browse through the game files [or even the CD] for sounds. You're bound to find something very useful there.

...Now if you excuse me, I have some celery and peanut butter to find.

(NOTE: I know I am double posting.) Whenever I'm gonna need a neck-break sound in a movie, I'm just gonnago outside and break a small tree limb in front of the microphone, (if I ever get a new one.)

Guys guys guys, I have the perfect breaking joints sound that would work great with a neck. Go to your local butchers and simply ask for a joint. Lamb is probably a good one here you get 2 sections of bone eiher side of the bone, Get your microphone set up and simply pull the joint around breaking it. It'll make some gruesome sounds.

This effect is brilliant because as you bend the joint, you get more breaking - With all the tendons breaking apart. So you can make a short break for a neck, or a long break for an elbow or backbone.
